This Friday sees the return of a familiar face as we continue our online series. JACKIE OATES has performed twice at the club, first at Frenchay Village Hall in July 2015, before returning last Christmas with a full band, filling the glorious surroundings of Christ Church Downend with festive magic. Now, we have the change to get to know her even better as we spend an hour or so chatting to her online!
Every Friday during lockdown, at 8.00pm on our FACEBOOK page, we're be joined by a different guest for an hour or so. The focus of these events is very much on chat, although each guest will play a few live songs too. You'll are invited to ask questions in the comments, so it will be very interactive... the more people watch and engage, the better it will be for everyone. The events are free, although there is a PayPal donations box, with 100 per cent of the donations going direct to the guest. You can find that at the bottom of the page. We'll keep them going until the restrictions are relaxed, and then we'll decide what to do next.
Jackie is synonymous with the reinvigoration of English folk. Her mellifluous voice, plaintive fiddle and tantalizing approach to traditional songs gained her several BBC Folk Awards in a career that’s seen her perform as a member of the nascent Unthanks, collaborate with Alasdair Roberts and Belinda O’Hooley, and release seven acclaimed solo albums. An inventive and enthralling artist; who else can say they’ve been immortalised as a Lush cosmetic, featured on cBeebies, Lauren Laverne’s 6 Music show and appeared in Midsomer Murders?
